Probably the same reason DeMuro has a different plate every shot. He collects them and it keeps his real plate from surfacing.

My guess it that he registered it in SC to avoid Cali’s inspections.

so he can park in the handicap spaces :p

I ran the plate though, and it’s not registered to a car with a normal VIN, so it very well could be registered here. Sam Stoner also had a decent answer.

Also, on his Instagram he has a blurred out SC plate on it in January.

Also, SC doesn’t have a lot of rules in the way of automobiles. Headlights aren’t even required and SC doesn’t do emissions testing either!

There’s a reason why I stay in this crazy state, most of it has to do with eventually importing a R33 GT-R

It could be an old plate off any car from before 1981, before vins were standardized.
But Stoner has a good point.

Because he’s a douchenozzle.

Emissions testing avoidance. The chances of a JDM performance car passing California emissions tests are 0%

Yep. My guess is that his family has some sort of residence in SC that he can register it to.

No — I strongly suspect it’s because he is in CA and the CA DMV won’t register it. SC will register anything.

I guess that is solid point.

I see this on a daily basis. It’s worse than Florida in that respect. I’ve lived in both.

That does make sense.

How often do you end up here in the Oppoverse?

damn dude, that’s a little harsh just for having a SC plate.

Do you know the requirements for registering a car in SC? Like do you just need a P.O Box or something?

I found this out from a California JDM importer, it takes $9k to BAR (CA emission) certify a R32 to 1989 (or whatever year it was) standards. He spends a shit ton of money on cars so I’m not surprised he’s trying to save. I’m not sure why he didn’t just go with a NC license, as points outside of NC do not apply to your license.

Its not that CA DMV (cough emissions Nazis) doesn’t allow them, they require them to be BAR (emissions tested and modified) for that year’s emissions. Unless you have a spare 9k to burn, be my guest.

CA only has emissions inspections.

He has and always will be with us.

I can answer “Why not NC?”
1. No inspection for SC.
2. The vehicle does not have to be present to get a tag in SC.

No CA smog
